  1. Careless habits. The new employee seemed feckless, never quite finishing anything, or getting it done just right.
  2. It is a sequence of numbers sometimes occurring in nature (e.g., in the branching of certain plants), discovered by Leonardo Fibonacci, an Italian mathematician. Each number in a Fibonacci series is the sum of the two preceding ones: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...
  3. Flaccid (from Latin flaccidus, flabby) means just that. He considered himself both a body-builder and a writer, but his biceps were as flaccid as his prose.
  4. A fletcher makes arrows. The help-wanted ads carry very few requests for fletchers these days.
  5. A thin mattress, like a thick quilt, used as a bed. When the kids come to visit, they usually sleep on futons.
